Margaret Garff Anderson
1913 ~ 2008
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret Garff Anderson passed away in Salt Lake City at the age of 94. After several years battling Alzheimer's and a recent fall, resulting in a fractured hip, she left this life Jan. 16, 2008 surrounded by her family. Margaret joins her husband of 51 years, Allan O. Anderson, who died on December 13, 1991.Born on December 30, 1913 in Logan, Utah to Royal B. Garff and Rachel Day Garff, she was the youngest of six; the first baby girl, Elizabeth lived only five days. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Royal L. Garff, Ken Garff, Grace Bryson, and Minnie Richards. She graduated from LDS High School and then attended LDS Business College. Always a hard worker, she held a variety of jobs while putting herself through school and later found satisfaction in the banking industry. During a visit to Chicago, where her brother Royal was getting his doctor's degree, she met and later married Allan. Her husband served as Executive Vice President of The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago for over 45 years.
A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she always said that her favorite calling was her service as a Youth Sunday School teacher in the North Shore Ward in Evanston, IL.
For all her many accomplishments and acts of kindness in life, she will be remembered most as a loving mother of three, grandmother to her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who adoringly referred to her as "Gigi."
Survived by her daughter Maryann (Joseph) Barton of Salt Lake City, Bruce (Gayle) Anderson of Aliso Viejo, CA, and David (Sue) Anderson of Saratoga, CA. Margaret loved life. Her engaging personality and sense of fun will be greatly missed. She always put her family first.
She left a legacy of selfless service and sacrifice.
The family wishes to thank her care-givers for many years for their devotion to Margaret.
Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary at 3401 S. Highland Drive on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 12:00 noon. The viewing will be prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
