Helen Romney Reese
1919 ~ 2007
On Friday, November 30, 2007 our beloved mother Helen Romney Reese passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.Helen was born in Murray, Utah on March 31, 1919 to Grant Miller Romney and Ella Nester Romney. Her father died in France in World War I before Helen was born, but she had a very happy childhood in her Grandfather Leo Nester's "Papa's" home with her mother and Great-grandmother. She married Ralph J. Reese, her Granite High School sweetheart in Salt Lake City. Later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Helen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many callings in Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday School. She was a Relief Society visiting teacher for over 50 years, which she always enjoyed. She worked in the University of Utah Education Department, for the State Legislature as a committee secretary, and at Fort Douglas during the Viet Nam enlistments. But most of her life was spent at home with her children, her greatest joy in life. She was an excellent seamstress and made many beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. She also made many stylish shirts for her boys. She loved her flower garden and spent many morning hours tending and enjoying it.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph and granddaughter Kathryn Reese. She is survived by her six children, Ralph G. (Stephanie) Reese, Kay Reese (David) Judd, Max G. (Susan) Reese, Don L. (Rebecca) Reese, Teri Reese (Bruce) Evans, all of Salt Lake City, and Al J. (Becky) Reese, of Indianapolis, Indiana. Helen has 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and brother Dale (Wilma) Croxford, and sister Doris (Andrew) Schmidt.
