LaVon Berg Lavin

"Grandma in the Red Car"

LaVon was born May 7, 1913 and passed away October 10, 2007. She married Art Lavin in 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved toArlington, Virginia where their four sons (Ken, Ron, David and George) were born. The family returned to Salt Lake in 1957. She independently cared for her family after her husband's passing in 1963 of

lingering illnesses. She worked most of her life for the U.S. Bureau of Mines, retiring at the age of 79,

after 32 years of service.

A faithful member of the LDS Church, she leaves a legacy of

devoted service to her church and family. LaVon was a kind-hearted friend to all. It was often said that she could go to any major city in the country and within a few hours meet someone who had a friend in

common. Her smile and good natured disposition in the face of life's

difficulties were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a valiant

defender of her faith and an

example of moral integrity. The pleasures of her life were her

family, children and grandchildren whom she loved and spent her life serving.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her two eldest sons,

brothers Frank and William Berg and sister, Lenora Kimball. She is survived by her two youngest sons, David (Michelle) and George

(Wanda), 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, and younger brother, Clifford Berg.

Lavon's family wishes to express their gratitude to the hospice staff at CareSource for their kind, sincere and compassionate care during her last weeks.

Funeral services will be held Mon. October 15, at 11 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St., Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral. Burial at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
