On September 27, 2007 Amy Eileen Simmons Sherren, a very special woman, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt and a great-grandmother died of natural causes and passed onto the next life.Amy Eileen Simmons was born April 6, 1916 in Layton, Utah to John Stoker Simmons and Mary Jane O'Brien Simmons. When she was 6 weeks old the family moved to Burley, Idaho. After Eileen graduated from high school she moved to Salt Lake City to attend Stevens Henager Business College. While going to Stevens Henager she met James Thomas Sherren. They were married April 30, 1934 in Farmington, Utah. They were parents of five children, Ann Wimber, James Thomas Sherren Jr, Robert L. Sherren, Kathleen Fisher and Edward L. Sherren.

Eileen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held numerous callings in her lifetime, including Relief Society President, Relief Society teacher, ward and choir organist and stake choir director. She had a strong testimony of the atonement and firmly believed that she would be with her family when her mortal existence ended.

At an early age Eileen discovered her wonderful musical talents. She learned to play the violin and the piano when she was in elementary school. Music brought much happiness to Eileen and the people around her. She was always busy teaching piano students, playing for soloists or musical groups or playing for weddings or funerals. She was a true perfectionist and it showed in everything she did.

Eileen is survived by her children, Ann Wimber, Salt Lake City, James Sherren, Ventura, CA, Kathleen Fisher, Salt Lake City, and Edward Sherren, Dallas, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Sherren; and son, Robert Sherren. She leaves behind a great family legacy with 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild due in 2 weeks. Also living is her older brother, Clarence Simmons; and younger sister, Hope Richards. She also has many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins who will cherish their memories of this always dignified and gracious woman.

We want to thank the employees of Alpine Hospice and all the employees at Evergreen Rest Home. We appreciate all of the love and care that you gave to Eileen. You are a very special group of people.

Services will be held Tuesday, October 2nd, 11 a.m. at the Mountain View Memorial Estates chapel, 3115 E 7800 S, Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be a viewing Tuesday between 10-10:45 a.m. before the funeral and also a viewing Monday evening, October 1st at the same location from 6-8:00 p.m. She will be interred at Mountain View Memorial Estates following the funeral service.
