Obituary: Bryant Jacobs Bullen

Bryant Jacobs Bullen 1925 ~ 2006 Bryant Jacobs Bullen, 80, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully June 27, 2006 of myleodysprastic syndrome, surrounded by his family. He was born September 22, 1925 to Bryant and Helene Jacobs Bullen in Logan, Utah. When he was five years old, his father died unexpectedly following surgery, and his 32 year old mother began years of working to support him, aided by his beloved grandmother, Eleanora Jacobs. Bry attended schools in Salt Lake City where his mother obtained work. In 1948 he graduated with a degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Utah. In 1953, he fell in love with Beatrice Duke, and the two were married Nov. 16, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. Bry's work for Galligher Company (later Baker-Hughes) carried him all over the world, primarily in South America and Mexico, but included South Africa and many other countries. Bry was so proud of his five children and as a grandfather to 22 grandchildren (with a new baby boy expected in August). He also loved having barbecue lunches with his son-in-law, Dan, going to IHOP with his son Ted and his boys, eating at Chuck-a-rama and having a quarter pounder at McDonalds. He dearly loved his country, playing "The Stars and Stripes Forever" at top volume on national holidays, with his young children marching around the family room waving flags. After his retirement, he spent hours entering names of his Bullen ancestors on discs for the LDS church to do temple work. He found a distant cousin on the Isle of Jersey who still had the French spelling Balleine of his name and went to visit him, along with his wife. He was thrilled to photograph headstones of Bullens in the nearby cemetery and gathered many more records there. He was the most conscientious of home teachers in his ward, and served faithfully in many priesthood presidencies. He will be honored at a funeral, Saturday, July 1 at the Mt. Olympus Stake Center, 4176 S. Adonis Drive, Holladay at 11:30 a.m. A viewing will be held Friday night at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the ward prior to the funeral from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Following the service, Bryant will be buried in the Logan City Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Bullen, children, Thomas (Diana) Bullen, Ted (Robin) Bullen, Diane (Dan) Larsen, Jill (Todd) Crosland, and Pam (Mark) Clawson and their children. Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia who must be welcoming him home with great joy.
