Rees Morrell
1914~2003
Harriet Ann Rees was born October 13, 1914 to Parley and Mandy Melvina Bastian Rees. Her childhood was spent in the rural community of Loa, Utah, where she worked hard at home and in the fields helping her parents make a living.
Harriet married Loen Ernest Morrell June 30, 1934 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple September 19, 1958. He passed away April 20, 1970. She often shared her experiences of their early married life at the sheep herd in Wayne County, getting lost, being lonely, frightened, dirty, and how she caught a ride back down the mountain vowing never to go back. Because of these experiences, she decided she would chart a different course in her life. Harriet was very industrious, often trading her manual labor for family necessities. Harriet worked at Adams Café in Loa, and plucked turkeys in Salina for Christmas money before moving to Salt Lake City where she worked for Keith O'Brien and then at Sears as a sales associate until retirement.
Harriet was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a two year ward calling that involved weekly endowment sessions which brought her great joy. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Harriet enjoyed attending Wayne County Reunions, Sears Christmas Retiree parties, Senior special activities in her ward, and any activity that involved spending time with her family. Harriet was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed and warmly remembered by all.
Harriet is survived by sons George (Arda) Morrell of Loa, Dean (Doris) Morrell of Sandy; sisters LaPreal Forsyth of Teasdale, Betty Jean (Alfonzo) Turner of Lyman; special sister-in-law Faun Rees of Loa; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by daughter Charlotte; great-grandson Cody Johnson; sisters Beverly (Elmer) Davis, Inez (Orin) White; brothers Norman Rees, Bash Rees; and brothers-in-law Rex Forsyth and Don Chappell.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 10, 2003 at 10 a.m., at the Grandview 1st Ward, 2910 S. 2000 E. Friends may visit Sunday evening at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday prior to the service at the ward 8:30-9:45 a.m. Graveside services will be held at the Loa Cemetery at 4 p.m.
