Best Mom & Nana

Marian Carlisle Preston passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 79 on 3 November 2003.

Marian was born in the family parlor in Providence, UT on 8 October 1924 to Myron Crandall Carlisle and Hazel Checketts Carlisle. She grew up in Logan, UT attending elementary and high school alongside Robert Dee Preston, who she married on 18 June 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple She attained a BA degree in Journalism from USU. Following her husband's sudden death in 1969, she returned to school and attained a master's degree in English from the U. of U. Alone, with five children, she pressed forward and taught school at Bryant Intermediate for nearly two decades.

Our Mom and Nana was an extraordinary woman, an elect lady. She had an unwavering faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and considered her lifelong membership in the LDS Church one of her greatest blessings. She was an example of courage, faith and strength to all that knew her. Despite the trials she was faced with, she held her head high and forged ahead. Along with her strength of character, she was also witty, charming, caring, and fun-loving; a delight to be with. She found adventure in everything from weekends and holidays with the family at the cabin in Park City, to her world travels. She also found joy in the simple pleasures in life - a good book, sitting in the sunshine, and visiting with friends. Above all, she loved her family and was blessed with many extraordinary friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved having sleepovers, tea parties and playing games with them.

Though she excelled at many things, we loved her cooking! Especially her wide variety of fabulous desserts. She also inherited a great talent for gardening where she found hours of peace and fulfillment. Her vibrant gardens were enjoyed by all.

She never thought of herself, only of what she could do for others. She can now do more on the other side than she could do here and is performing greater works arm-in-arm with Bob. And without a doubt, is tending to a beautiful garden.

Marian is survived by her five children, Craig Preston (Joey), Jim Preston (Fidge), Doug Preston (Wendy), Debbie Skeen (Randy) and Bonnie Bolinder (John); 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and her brother Howard Carlisle (Colleen).

Funeral services held at the Valley View 12th Ward Chapel, 2000 East 3900 South, Monday, 10 November 2003 at 12 noon. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, 9 November at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 Highland Drive, from 5-7pm and on Monday from 10:45-11:45am preceding the funeral. Interment at Mountain View Estates.
