Ted Kirkmeyer, 95, of Salt Lake City, died September 25, 2003.
He was born in Boulder, Colorado on June 21, 1908. Graduated from the University of Colorado. Married Nellie Grant his college sweetheart in 1939. He was an officer in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was in charge of motion picture theatres in Colorado, Montana, Idaho and Utah for over 45 years and received Regional and National awards in Theatre Management and Motion Picture Exploitation. In Los Angeles, he received from Darryl F. Zanuck, President of Twentieth Century Fox Corporation, the Special Motion Picture Theatre Award for the most outstanding Motion Picture Exploitation in National competition. In Paris, he received the Metro Goldwyn Mayer Award for the best campaign world wide on their special picture "Marie Antoinette." Transferred to Ogden, Utah in 1940. Managed the Ogden and Historic Egyptian Theatre. Transferred to Salt Lake City in 1956 to manage Fox Intermountain circuit of Theatres. A Kiwanian for over 50 Years, President of the Salt Lake Kiwanis Club, Lieutenant Governor Utah-Idaho Division. Awarded Lifetime membership by Kiwanis International. He was on the board of the Utah Transit Authority (two terms), American Red Cross, Days of 47 (15 years) and the Cathedral of the Madeleine parish council. An avid gardener, winner of the Best Home Garden Award and the Five Year Continuous Improvement Award. Mr. and Mrs. Kirkmeyer were extensive worldwide travelers, having visited all of the major countries in the world.
In his retirement years, enjoyed being a member of the "Dirty Shirts" golf and bowling club.
Ted is survived by his wife, Nellie and his beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.Comment on this story
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 East South Temple. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at the family plot, Green Mountain Cemetery, Boulder, Colorado.
