Orem city is promoting the idea that by raising the speed limits, they are making the street in front of my home "safer." However, it is interesting to note that the mayor and City Council members who unanimously voted for the increases have not come forward to offer that the speeds be raised in front of their homes.
In fact, quite the opposite. They have expressed the desire to have the speeds maintained at their current levels or even slowed down in front of their homes! Apparently, the faster speeds that are "perfectly safe" for my children aren't "safe" for theirs.
They say that they voted to raise the limits because 85 percent of the drivers were speeding. Based on results, if you get enough people to break the law, the Orem mayor and council are happy to oblige.
