OREM — It took Timpview a little longer than normal to pick up its second win of the season. With 2:13 remaining in the third quarter and the T-Birds leading 20-7, the game was delayed 30 minutes due to lightening.

Once the players were brought back to the field, Timpview maintained control and cruised to the 26-7 victory.

"It was a huge advantage for us playing last week," Timpview coach Chad Van Orden said. "We usually improve a lot from week one to week two."

Prior to the delay, the Timpview offense was successful in moving the ball on the Tiger defense as it racked up 359 yards of offense. In the first half the T-Birds had 227 yards, with 185 yards coming on the ground.

Junior running back Harvey Unga led the T-Bird rushing attack in the first half carrying the ball seven times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdowns came on runs of 59 and 30 yards.

"Harvey can thank the guys up front because we are not doing anything special," Van Orden said.

Orem opened the game by eating up the first nine minutes of the first quarter on a 14-play drive. But the drive proved unsuccessful as a Kai Kamoe 36-yard field goal sailed wide left.

The T-Birds didn't show any rust after the nine-minute wait on the sidelines. On a third-and-two from the 41, Unga broke through the line of scrimmage and ran 59 yards for a touchdown with 56 seconds left in the first quarter.

After an Orem turnover, Timpview took a 13-0 lead with 9:16 left in the second quarter on a 17-yard run by quarterback Stephen Covey.

"That is what he is about, making plays," Van Orden said of his starting quarterback. The T-Birds upped their lead to 20-0 when Unga sprinted 30 yards up the middle for a touchdown with 5:43 left in the first half. The score was set up when Covey connected with Luke Ashworth on a 42-yard pass, putting the ball on the Orem 30-yard line.

Orem's only touchdown came with 7:53 left in the third quarter. On the second play of the series Blake Steele broke through several Timpview defenders and ran 47 yards for a touchdown. Van Orden was also pleased with his defense even though they gave up the third quarter touchdown.
