PROVO L. Douglas Smoot, a professor at Brigham Young University's College of Engineering and Technology, has received the American Society of Mechanical Engineers-International "Percy Nicholls Award" for scientific achievement in the field of solid fuels.
Smoot is an emeritus professor of chemical engineering and dean emeritus of the engineering technology school. He continues to teach at the LDS Church-owned school.
Smoot, who has worked at BYU for the last 44 years, has secured more the $35 million in research funds for the school.
