Donate time to help others

American Diabetes Association: Volunteers needed Sept. 6 for America's Walk for Diabetes. Assistance in registration, set-up/cleanup, meal servers and start/finish support.

Arthritis Foundation: Become a self-help leader, aquatics or exercise instructor or help in the office. Training in September.

Good Samaritan Program: Make sandwiches for the homeless or greet clients as they arrive. Three-hour shifts.

Homeless Youth Resource Center: Donations of hygiene products, sleeping bags, thermal underwear, hand warmers, backpacks, sewing kits, bus tokens and calling cards are needed. Also need volunteers to serve dinner on Friday nights and help with general office work.

Kid's Cafe-Utah Food Bank: Prepare, serve and clean up meals for at-risk children Monday through Friday, two- to three-hour shifts.

Literacy Action Center: Work one-on-one with English speaking adults to help them learn to read and write. Training provided.

Mountainlands Community Housing Trust: Assistance needed on Saturdays to help construct new homes in the Park City area for low-income families. This program allows seven families to purchase a home through "sweat equity."

Muscular Dystrophy Association: Volunteers needed Sept. 1 to help with Executive Lock-Up.

No More Homeless Pets: The following donations are needed: pet food, brushes, animal carriers, paper towels, cat beds, chew bones, Polaroid film and carpet samples.

Rocky Mountain Home Care — Faith in Action: Assist frail elderly and families with respite care, errands, visiting, light housekeeping or cooking in Salt Lake or Davis County areas.

Salt Lake County Aging Services: Needs an ombudsman — a person to advocate and be a voice for seniors living in long-term care facilities. Training provided.

Salt Lake County Youth Services: Teach beginning piano, cooking, crafts and employment skills classes to teenagers. Volunteers must be 18 or older, pass a background check and attend orientation.

Salt Lake Peer Court: Greeters and advisers needed to provide support and guidance for high school students as they adjudicate and mentor referred youth offenders. Training provided.
