Lone Peak blanks American Fork
Knights score all 4 of their goals in the second half
AMERICAN FORK Lone Peak girls' soccer coach Edgar Monterrosa wants his players to be able to play every position on the soccer field. One player he knows he can count on to play all over the field is senior Chelsea Arnell.
In Thursday's 4-0 win over American Fork, Arnell finished with two goals and one assist while playing as a forward and defender. The win is Lone Peak's first of the year.
Despite firing 19 first-half shots on goal, the Knights were not able to score until the second half. American Fork goalie Amanda Willard made several nice saves to keep the game scoreless until the second half.
In the first 11 minutes of the second half the Knights scored three goals. "I told the girls that we needed to keep shooting and sooner or later the goals were going to come," Monterrosa said.

Whitlie Murdoch scored the first goal in the 44th minute when she dribbled past Willard and ran right into the back of the net with two AF defenders.
Five minutes later Arnell scored her first goal of the game on a 25-yard shot on an assist by Chelsi Roberts. Then in the 51st minute Whitney Wunderli scored on a 30-yard free kick to put Lone Peak on top 3-0.
"When we have the ball I want us to pressure and see if we can create damage," Monterrosa said. "That is what the girls did today."
Lone Peak's final goal came in the 64th minute when Arnell scored off a pass from Allie Branscomb. Goalie Rebecca Shumway was solid in goal for the Knights.
In the second half Lone Peak fired 16 shots on goal. Lone Peak also controlled possession for most of the game.
"The main thing I tell my team is not to worry about what the other team is doing," Monterrosa said. "We just need to play our game and that is what happened."
Monterrosa was most pleased with the way his girls played together as a team. In Lone Peak's previous two losses he said, "that was something they were struggling with."
