OREM A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday after he reportedly strolled into an Orem home, stole a handgun and then tried to sell the gun back to the gun's owner, police said.
Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said a woman living in the area of 300 South and Main reported that a man she was acquainted with entered her home uninvited, took a handgun and then left.
The woman told police the man then called and offered to sell the handgun back to her.
Edwards said police worked with the woman to set up a meeting at an area that would not be a danger to the public.
When the man arrived about 9:30 p.m., he was immediately surrounded by officers armed with handguns and shotguns.
Edwards said police located the alleged stolen gun on the floor of the man's car. The man surrendered without incident and was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of burglary, theft of a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon.
Edwards said the man has a history of drug-related arrests and was arrested last year in connection with a home-invasion robbery in Orem.
