The Jordan School Board spent some time last week discussing myriad budget-slicing ideas, as the district is likely to face an estimated $29 million deficit for the 2010-11 school year.

It's too early to tell, but cost-cutting measures could include layoffs and larger class sizes, Jordan School District Superintendent Barry Newbold said.

District staff is providing to the board a range of options, Newbold said. "Some would be easier than others. Loss of jobs, larger class sizes and tax increases are on the difficult side," he said. "There may have to be some combination of cuts."

Jordan District aims to begin implementing some cuts in March, after the Legislature makes statewide budget decisions.
