CROSS COUNTRY: The Wolverines headed to the NCAA Mountain Region Championships for the first time in school history on Saturday. The men will move up in distance to run a 10K (6.2 miles), starting at 10:45 a.m. (MT), followed by the women's 6K (3.7 miles) race at noon.

The top two teams at each regional meet automatically qualify for nationals and the first four individuals not on a qualifying team also earn an automatic berth. Generally, two-three teams from the Mountain Region have been selected for at-large bids to the NCAA Championships.

"This is really exciting as it is the first time in school history we get to go to regionals," UVU head coach Scott Houle said. "Now our kids have more than just conference goals, they have regional goals where they can qualify for the NCAA Championships. This opportunity adds more and more respect to our program and in time will bring better and better athletes here."

Both Wolverine cross country teams are coming off of impressive races in their last meet as both the men's and women's squads were crowned Great West Conference Champions.

Junior Mary Nothum will be looking to qualify as she leads UVU's women's team and was recently named the GWC Women's Athlete of the Year, after she won the GWC Championships. Senior's Jacob Buhler and Chase Englestead, who both redshirted last year for this opportunity, will be striving to qualify for nationals on the Wolverines men's team.
