Man charged in stabbing at Salt Lake inn
Charges were filed Thursday against a man who police say stabbed another man in the head and neck while at a Salt Lake inn last month.
Nathaniel Roy Brown, 49, was charged with attempted murder, a second-degree felony, in 3rd District Court.
On June 25, police responded to the Gateway Inn, 819 W. North Temple, where they found a man bleeding heavily from his head and neck. The man who was stabbed was rushed to the hospital and required emergency surgery to survive, according to the charges.
The victim told police that he had invited some people back to his room for drinks and Brown had passed out, so the other people ended up leaving, the charges state.
"The defendant woke up angry and began to fight," the court documents state. "The defendant threw (the victim) on the ground, grabbed a glass ashtray and broke it over (the victim's) head. He saw the defendant grab a knife and then felt stabbing on his head."
An officer who was transporting Brown to jail said that he noticed blood on Brown's hands, shirt and pants. He also said that while he was transporting him, Brown asked, "I didn't kill him, did I?"
Brown also faces a misdemeanor charge of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.
