The CW is showing surprising promise

I'm not saying these are great shows. But I was entertained by all the pilots/presentations.
They reminded me a lot of the glory days of "The WB," when that network turned out a lot of very watchable shows aimed at teens and 20-somethings.
So here's another sentence I never expected to write — keep an eye on The CW this fall.
BUT THE CW just can't help being The CW, it would seem.
I have no big problem with changing the title of "Parental Discretion Advised" to "Life UneXpected" ... except that the original title was better and the new title looks like a typographical error.
But it could change again before the show gets on the air, so it's not worth worrying about yet.
But the title of "The Beautiful Life" has been changed to "The Beautiful Life: TBL" for no apparent reason whatsoever.
Apparently, it was mandated by The CW's Department of Redundancy Department.
Shut up!
SPEAKING OF FIRST impressions, NBC certainly made one on my 18-year-old daughter with the pilot for its new series "Parenthood."
You may recall the original "Parenthood," the 1989 Steve Martin movie about an extended, dysfunctional family dealing with a variety of problems with the various children.
The new "Parenthood" doesn't have Martin, and the not-yet-for-review pilot is also pretty deadly serious about all the problems all the kids (and their parents) have.
When it was over, my daughter said, "Now I feel horrible."
That can't be what NBC is going for.
We'll see if the pilot is reworked before it makes it on the air this fall.
