Author points out specific scriptures on divorce
If you or someone you know is navigating the divorce land mines now, Vance believes the following scriptures and some highlights of her reflections on them will help you, too:
1. "Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." – Proverbs 3: 3 – 5 (NKJV).
First: Trust in the Lord — He knows what's right. Second: Lean not unto thine own understanding — because you sure can't figure everything out. Third: Acknowledge him in all things; Fourth: and He shall direct your path.
He will come to you as that still, small voice, or that hunch or that intuition, or through a person or a situation. But, don't worry. He will come to you. He shall direct your path.
2. "But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O man, whether you will save your wife? But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all churches." I Corinthians 7:15 – 17 (NKJV).
This scripture was a lifesaver to Vance. When she came across it, she had an eye-opening experience She took this scripture to mean: if your husband leaves, he leaves. Let him!
"You are not called to suffer bondage in a bad situation," Vance said. "You are called to have peace, so don't beat yourself up for something that is — and always was — out of your control."
3. "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 (KJV).
"Stand on this scripture when you are afraid, anxious and have no clue how you will be able to take care of yourself and your children," Vance advises.
4. "Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up. A servant who becomes king, a fool who is full of food, an unloved woman who is married, and a maidservant who displaces her mistress." Proverbs 30: 21-23 (New International Version).
"I feel that many women also compare themselves to the unloved woman in Proverbs 30, and they feel sad because they are her," Vance said.
"A woman who is unloved and married can shake the foundations of the earth because being unloved and married is out of order. The unloved woman knows that, and this scripture comforted me with the knowledge that the earth knows it, too," she said.
