If you check out their brief biography on ABC.com, here's what you'll learn about Utahns/"Here Come the Newlyweds" contestants Sarin and Jed Hinkins:

"Virgins when they got married, this couple's honeymoon was the very first time they were together. Their honeymoon hotel turned out to be a clothing-optional resort — which was incredibly awkward for them."

It is, of course, fascinating that the folks at ABC think it's so unusual that a married couple didn't have sex with each other (or anyone else) before they got married. It sort of tells us something about the folks at ABC, doesn't it?

At the same time, it sort of makes the Hinkinses — a very nice young couple who live in Cedar City and attend Southern Utah University — seem like hicks or rubes.

As in — how could anybody possibly end up at a clothing-optional resort accidentally?

(Of course, if that story helped the Hinkinses get cast on "Here Come the Newlyweds" — the reality/competition show that airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Ch. 4 — then it was all worth it.)

The truth of the matter is that there's a perfectly reasonable, logical explanation for how it happened. Really.

The Hinkinses booked a stay at a Cancun resort for their honeymoon.

"When we got there, they said they had overbooked," Jed Hinkins told the Deseret News. "And they said they could upgrade us for free to their nicer resort that was kind of downtown."

Well, gee, if somebody offered to give me a free upgrade at a nicer resort that was closer to other tourist attractions, I would have taken them up on it, too. Who wouldn't?

"They asked us if we were both 21. We thought it was just because it was all-inclusive they had to make sure were old enough to drink," Jed Hinkins said.

Certainly a reasonable assumption. If you're not looking to book accommodations in a nudist camp, it's not something that would even enter your mind.

"And when we got there, we checked in, went to our room and unpacked and then went down to the beach," Jed Hinkins said. "We started looking around, and there's all these topless women.

"And we found out it was a clothing-optional resort. It was hilarious."

"It was certainly awkward," Sarin Hinkins said with a laugh.

See. It could have happened to anyone. Really.
