Bullets don't bounce off Captain America, but they apparently can't kill him either.

Steve Rogers — aka Captain America — who was killed off in March 2007, will return to the Marvel Comics universe on July 1.

"Captain America Reborn" will be a five-part series ($3.99 each issue) about his return to life and his fight against evil.

According to the Comics Continuum, here's how Marvel explains "Cap's" return:

"A story that captured international attention, Captain America No. 25 polarized shocked audiences by starkly depicting the murder of the cultural icon. On that fateful day when shots rang out on the courthouse steps, Cap's greatest enemy — the Red Skull — achieved his greatest ambition — or so it seemed. Since that time, the Marvel Universe has been in chaos, as the Red Skull has worked toward his true endgame. But now there is a ray of hope in the form of Steve Rogers!

"How can Steve Rogers return from the dead, and will his rebirth be enough to stop the global threat of his sworn enemy? Hitting shelves on July 1, the special five-part series 'Captain America Reborn' finally reveals the true scope of the Red Skull's nefarious plan, and begins Captain America's triumphant return."

The Marvel Web site has a short video that explains a little more at marvel.com/videos/725.Reborn_Trailer.

In that video, a female government agent, who was present when Captain America was killed, says, "Now I've discovered the truth, and I know how to bring him back."

The agent also looks like she will help Captain America in his fight — and there may even be a romance brewing between the two.

Additional information on the Marvel Web site states Captain America has been on some sort of metaphysical journey and may not return at full capacity.

Rogers' former sidekick, Bucky Barnes, took over the Captain America role. How he will fit into the new story line is unclear.

Besides Red Skull, other villains, such as Doctor Doom, will be included in this tale.

Marvel is still planning a live action Captain America movie in the summer of 2011 — so you knew Steve Rogers wouldn't stay dead forever.
