The preseason tournament isn't going to completely determine how teams are grouped into divisions this summer. Bingham High School coach Joey Sato said the league got some new additions from the north and south this year, and divisions will be mostly determined by geography to help with travel costs.

Teams will still play unbalanced schedules to keep the league as competitive as possible.

"It (the preseason tournament) is done so the stronger teams play the stronger teams and the others play the others so the competition stays good throughout the summer," Sato said.

MARSHALLS, BUCKS GET STARTED: The Utah Marshalls and Utah Bucks each started their summer seasons last week. Timpanogos' Rhett Nelson and Cyprus' Taylor Jones threw well for the Marshalls, who feature some of the state's top graduated players, as well as solid baseball players from around the nation.

Last summer, the Marshalls were comprised of graduated seniors, and the Bucks featured younger players. The Marshalls mostly feature graduated players again this year but with one notable exception — senior-to-be and Deseret News Mr. Baseball award winner Marcus Littlewood of Pine View.

Other local players on the Marshalls include Bingham's Colton Yack, Viewmont's Kyle Bilbrey, American Fork's Bo Fisher and Josh Mooney, Judge Memorial's AJ Carman, Juan Diego's Jared Forbush, Cottonwood's Zach Adams, Murray's Chase Rezac and Dixie's Chunner Nyberg, who was picked by the Angels in the 49th round of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft last week. The team is coached by Tyson Littlewood.

The Bucks, this time around, feature solid graduated talent in 4A MVP Taylor Larsen, and Lone Peak's Kade Andrus and Adam Kelsch. They also have some of the state's top younger players in Jordan's Reggie Jones and Kelton Caldwell, Lone Peak's Dillon Robinson, Cottonwood's Dalton Gust and Pleasant Grove's Colby Croft. The Bucks are coached by Kellen Carsey.
