Shurtleff has done this before — met with individuals who are being investigated by his office. He stands by those meetings, saying they are appropriate, that as a public servant, as well as a law enforcement officer, he should meet with citizens concerned about his office's operations.
But while nothing inappropriate may go on in such meetings, the appearance of wrongdoing will always hover over them.
Finally, Becker, who has taken pride in not being as divisive a figure as was his predecessor, Rocky Anderson, got himself in hot water over suggesting that a new police administration building be located on downtown's Library Square.
A beautifully designed library now dominates the square. And critics say a police building would detract from, even block, the view of the library. A police presence could also dampen the current free activity feel of the square — having police looking down from above.
Becker said Wednesday the cop shop won't be located on the square, acknowledging how his suggestion drew so many complaints.
It's Becker's first real public relations foul up but not nearly as divisive as the Main Street/LDS Church issue Anderson had to deal with.
Still, the mild-mannered Becker was left wondering what hit him.

Both teams and unsportmslike calls and they could have called more on BYU...
Way to go Max, just stating facts, even if they had a little spice to them....
Good for Max Hall. I'm glad he stood up and said what most of us already...
But remember, Jonny Harline is STILL open!
It doesn't really matter if recievers out run the DB's if the QB can't even...
