Miss California spoke for silent majority

The problem with this entire controversy — and many others like it — is that the backlash comes from a loud minority that makes the "offense" appear much worse and more important than it is. Once again there is the silent majority that did its speaking in the polling booth. Thirty states have placed same-sex marriage on the ballot; 30 states have voted to define marriage the same way that Carrie Prejean defines it — something between a man and a woman. Prejean's home state was the latest to vote on the issue.

In other words, more people agree with Prejean than Hilton and the rest of the celebrities who jumped at the chance to align themselves with him. But you wouldn't know it to listen to the fuss in the days that followed the pageant. Unlike most Americans, Hilton — and the many of like mind who are in the entertainment industry — have ready access to the media, which gives them disproportionate attention (ultimately they will get their way because of it). Hence, the silent majority.

Hilton — a celebrity wannabe described as "openly gay" (he calls himself "Queen of Media" ) — is so mean-spirited, nasty, profane and arrogant that even the gay community has criticized his tactics in the past. Certainly, he is making no friends for their cause. After the pageant, he called Prejean a "dumb (b word)" and later he said he had meant to call her a worse name (we can't even hint at what that word is here). Isn't that like calling him the "H word"?

Story continues below

Ignoring the obvious beauty of Prejean (if that's possible), watch online videos of interviews with Prejean and Perez. Then decide who is truly the more respectful, reasoned, sensible and kinder of the two.
