Former BYU star Danny Ainge suffers heart attack
Former BYU basketball star and current Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge suffered a heart attack Thursday, according to WCVB in Boston.
Ainge was taken to the hospital Thursday morning, according to the television station.
Ainge, 50, led the Cougars to its only Elite Eight appearance as a senior in 1981 before a successful career in the National Basketball Association. In 2003, Ainge took over the reins of the Celtics, who won the NBA championship last season after bringing in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. He did not attend Wednesday's Celtics game because he was sick. Ainge awoke Thursday with chest pains and went to the hospital. Doctors inserted a stent to unclog an artery that was 100 percent clogged.
Ainge is expected be in the hospital for a few days and will probably miss attending the Celtics' playoff opener against the Bulls on Saturday. Ainge is expected to make a full recovery.
