Utah State History awarded 21 certified local governments grants so they may gain the tools and resources necessary to make the historic buildings in their communities more vibrant. According to a release from the group, the grants are collectively worth more than $100,000.

Ogden received the majority of the funds, or $17,000, to prepare a National Register nomination for the Berthana Building. In addition, Ogden will be updating kiosks along 25th Street and providing brochures to inform those on a walking tour of the town.

Mapleton was awarded $1,400 to publish a booklet of historic buildings within the town and their history.

The release states that many of the funds are dedicated to repairs or improvements for the preservation of historic landmarks, but some of the money will be used for professional consultation or national registration.

Midway will receive $2,500 to hire a professional consultant to update the 1984 reconnaissance level survey. Spring City will reportedly use its $6,600 for repairs to the Springville Carnegie Library and Web site updates and maintenance.
