By halftime, West Jordan had closed to within 32-26. And the rally continued in the third quarter — a Weirick lay-up tied the game at 39-39 midway through the period. Gallegos scored eight points during a 64-second stretch of the third-quarter comeback, including back-to-back 3-pointers just before Weirick's lay-up.
"We weathered that storm, which took probably more courage than what we did in the second half. We hung around and made it a game," said Briggs.
West Jordan held Haws scoreless in the third quarter; he scored only six of his team-high 20 points after halftime.
"We just wanted to make it as difficult as possible. He's a great scorer, you're not going to stop him," said Briggs.
Nate Austin finished with 16 points for Lone Peak, including a 3-pointer that gave the Knights their last lead of the game at 47-44 with over five minutes remaining.
Weirick and Mason Sawyer chipped in with 15 points apiece in the victory for West Jordan.
5A All-Tournament Team
MVP — Jordan Weirick, West Jordan
Nate Austin, Lone Peak
Ben Clifford, Bingham
