Family trip to Wyoming ends tragically
Three members of a Sandy family died after a car crash on snowy and icy roads in Wyoming.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the crash happened Thursday evening on Highway 28 as the family was driving to Powell, Wyo., to watch an older daughter's basketball game.
Capt. Len DeClercq says Eric Gustafson, 49, lost control of the SUV he was driving about 33 miles east of Farson, Wyo. The vehicle slid off the road and rolled four times down an embankment.
Jaret Gustafson, 76, was thrown from the SUV and Luanne Gustafson, 48, was partially ejected through a window. Both died at the scene.
Diane Gustafson, 73, died early Friday of a heart attack, though it has not been confirmed if it was directly related to the crash.
Eric Gustafson and three children, ranging in age from 9 to 16, were treated at the hospital and released.
About 7:40 p.m., a vehicle carrying seven members of the Gustafson family was driving on icy roads with limited visibility at times because of wind and snow. The driver apparently lost control and rolled down a small embankment, Declercq said. The accident happened on Highway-28 about 50 miles west of Lander, Wyo.
Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt except Jarret Gustafson, he said.
