Walker registers as a paid lobbyist

Walker resigned his Sandy seat last July, a day before the House Ethics Committee was to meet to hear complaints about Walker's part in the alleged offer to now-Treasurer Richard Ellis to keep Ellis in his top treasurer appointed job and nearly double Ellis' pay, if Ellis would drop out of the GOP race, making way for Walker to win the nomination. Ultimately, Ellis beat Walker in the June GOP primary.

The House Ethics committee can only look into wrongdoing by a sitting House member, so Walker's resignation ended that proceeding. A criminal investigation ensued, however.

The Walker incident is still reverberating in Capitol hallways. There were hard feelings in the House after several Democrats and Republicans filed the complaint against Walker.

And now there is talk that Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, has been re-installed as chairman of the Senate judicial confirmation committee to stall the judicial appointment of a Weber County prosecutor who looked into the Walker charges.

Walker was later prosecuted by the Salt Lake City attorney's office, because the charge was a misdemeanor. And Walker took a plea bargain in the case, promising to talk to prosecutors about possible charges against any other persons.
