A man was in extremely critical condition following a three car accident in Salt Lake City Wednesday morning.

A little after 7 a.m., a vehicle traveling on 3900 South near 900 West lost control on the slick road and started to slide out of control, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan. The vehicle behind the first car tried to stop but couldn't and hit the first car. The impact spun the first car around and tossed it into on-coming traffic where it was hit a second time, McGowan said.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 50-year-old West Valley man whose name was not released Wednesday, was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition. The 58-year-old female driver of the second car, also from West Valley, was transported to a local hospital in good condition. The 33-year-old male driver of the third vehicle, and his two adult passengers, were not injured.
