If a particular place gave birth to Joseph's Smith First Vision, it may not have been the majestic grove. Perhaps it was within the rough-hewn walls of a log home.

And if a certain period of his life made that vision possible, it may have been well before he entered the grove at age 14. "At about the age of 12 years," he once recalled, "my mind became seriously impressed with regard to the all-important concerns for the welfare of my immortal soul."

The question of 1820 began as a quest in the years before.
