Search for car burglar in Cottonwood Heights continues
On Friday, between 15 to 20 cars were burglarized in the Cottonwood Heights, Sandy and Holladay areas, said Cottonwood Heights police officer Beau Babka. The burglary rash was discovered when sheriff's deputies came across an abandoned Suburban that had rolled near 4500 South and 2900 East. Inside the vehicle was a large amount of property taken from other cars.
Some of the items were returned to their owners immediately. But there was still a large volume of items that remained unclaimed Tuesday, including guitars, suitcases, clothes and car amplifiers, Babka said. Some residents may not even know yet that their property has been taken, he said.
People who believe their items may have been stolen and recovered by police should call the police agency in their jurisdiction and fill out a report, Babka said.
As for the person responsible, Babka said detectives had identified a potential culprit and are "actively pursuing him."
