A man who was trying to flee a pair of intruders jumped from his second story window to safety Tuesday.

Just after 7 a.m., two men went to an apartment near 300 East and 100 South to see two other men inside, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan. The intruders and the victims knew each other and had had a prior dispute, he said.

"There was an argument and something happened. It may have been a revenge type of issue," McGowan said.

One of the intruders had a knife and the other a gun. In an effort to get away, one of the occupants of the apartment broke a window and jumped from the second story, McGowan said. The man ran to a nearby convenience store to call police. When officers arrived, the assailants were gone.

Detectives were looking Tuesday at whether the earlier dispute may have a tie to drugs. Other than a few scratches the one man suffered from breaking the window and jumping out, no one was injured in the incident. — Pat Reavy
