"A quiet man, unpretentious in manner and in stature, Snarr combined talent with determined application to the job at hand with time out occasionally for golf," a Deseret News article stated.
Born March 28, 1921, in Provo, Mr. Snarr majored in journalism at BYU and first worked as a reporter for the Provo Herald, first on sports and then on city desk. After graduation in 1942, he married his high school sweetheart, Zola Johnson, and began at the Deseret News. But the war was on and he served with the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years in World War II, working in public relations on the West Coast.
In the 10 years following the war, he worked at the Deseret News as a reporter, rewriter, assistant city editor and executive news editor.
He then launched a related career, starting in 1956, in advertising and public relations on the staff of David W. Evans and Associates. Starting as account executive, he became vice president, executive vice president, president and finally chairman of the board and chief officer in 1974. He also dabbled in freelance writing over the years.
Mr. Snarr received an Extraordinary Achievement Award from the Deseret News in 2006, and the News and the LDS Foundation established the L. Glen Snarr scholarship in journalism at Brigham Young University in his honor.
He also received the Utah Advertising's Silver Medal Award in 1982 and had been a member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club. He had served on many boards over the years, including the board of Utah Hotel Co.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at noon at the Foothill 4th Ward, 2200 E. Roosevelt Ave. Public viewings are scheduled Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 S., and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Foothill 4th Ward.
