Yule gift ideas for the Broadway fans on your list
Thanks to the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, there is a whole catalog of options. Just go to www.broadwaycares.org to order your copy or you can shop online.
My favorites: A few years ago I was delighted to discover the "Carols for a Cure" CDs. Take your favorite Broadway casts, add some Christmas classics, a pinch of new (hilarious) songs and you'll get a great new collection of Christmas music in unique arrangements.
And the recordings aren't just for chorus members. They're filled with Broadway heavy-hitters: Bernadette Peters, Harvey Fierstein, Idina Menzel, Kerry Butler, Sutton Foster and so much more.
This is the 10th anniversary edition and it's a two-disc set. The cast of "Xanadu" did "Hit the Deck (Deck the Halls, Disco Remix)"; "Billy Elliot" did "Cold Christmas"; and "Rent" did "Seasons/Love Heals: A Rent Farewell."
Or, you also have the option of getting your Broadway baby the whole 10-disc set for $170.
Wait, there's more: At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, that's not all! They have everything Broadway clocks, snowglobes, umbrellas, mugs, baseball caps, ornaments, solo CDs, home decor, onesies, jewelry, posters, clothing, dog leashes the list goes on.
New this year: BC/EFA is also starting a new line of collectable ornaments, the "Broadway Legends" series. This year's features Angela Lansbury on a hand-made glass ornament dressed as "Mame."
And, your money goes to a good cause: Since 1998, BC/EFA has raised more than $150 million for people with AIDS and other serious illnesses.
Or: You could get your sweetie tickets to "Wicked"! Broadway Across America has announced single tickets for the upcoming tour will go on sale Friday, Dec. 12.
After advance-sales to subscribers and groups, it's sounding like there is a pretty limited number of tickets. So, buyers on your marks ... get set ... go!
Tickets will be available beginning at 7 a.m. at the Capitol Theatre box office, 50 W. 200 South. For those of you who feel luckier with the click of a mouse, online sales begin at 10 a.m. at www.arttix.org. At that time you can also try calling 801-355-2787. Abravanel Hall, and the Rose Wagner Center will also be ready to handle in-person ticket sales starting at 10 a.m. Tickets are $55, $77.50, $98.50 and $150 plus fees.
