The works of Alfred Hitchcock will be the focus of a new course taught by a local film aficionado at the University of Utah beginning in January.

Participants can expect to delve into many of the film-maker's greats, like "Psycho," "The Birds" and 1940 Oscar-winner "Rebecca" and "Vertigo," which the American Film Institute recently named the best mystery film of all time.

"Hitchcock was much more than a master of suspense; he was an artist who knew how to use the elements of film in a way that pulled audiences into them and invited them to take a second look at the films," said Hunter Hale, who will be instructing the course.

"Alfred Hitchcock: His Masterpieces" will meet Wednesdays beginning Jan. 14 through Feb. 18, from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m., at the Commander's House at Fort Douglas.
