In addition to Walker, several other names with fairly prominent profiles have surfaced in relation to the job. Kent Baer, a former USU player and defensive coordinator at schools such as Notre Dame, Washington, Cal and Arizona State, is lobbying for the job. Smith, who coached the Aggies from 1995-97, has also expressed interest in the job and has a lot of support from many fans and boosters.
South Florida passing game coordinator Michael "Chico" Canales also told the Deseret News he would like to discuss the job with USU. Canales is a former USU quarterback and was a finalist for the Aggie job the last time it was open.
Former USU assistant and current Auburn defensive coordinator Paul Rhodes is also said to be interested in a return to Logan.
Though not likely, it is possible Utah State could have its coach hired in time to meet with the team following the season finale on Saturday against New Mexico State.
