Roy man faces sex abuse charges
After appearing in Ogden's 2nd District Court on Wednesday to face a first-degree felony charge of sodomy on a child and forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony, Gilbert Norman Oliver was arrested by Salt Lake City police on investigation of more than a dozen child sex abuse counts.
"He was booked on six counts of sodomy on a child, 12 counts of rape of a child and three counts of object rape of a child," Salt Lake City police spokeswoman Lara Jones said Thursday.
Police began investigating Oliver, 49, when the now-14-year-old victim reported being abused since he was 5, Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham said. The victim was often taken from Roy to Oliver's workplace in Salt Lake City.
"The occurrences are so numerous that nobody seems to have a grasp of how many times there may have been an inappropriate sexual activity," Whinham said Thursday.
Court minutes indicate that during his initial appearance on Wednesday, Oliver was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim. He remains in the Salt Lake County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 cash only bail.
