Commuters utilizing rapid-transit bus line
The Max runs along 3300 South and 3500 South through West Valley City and Magna, shuttling passengers to and from the 3300 South TRAX station, the agency said this month. A regular bus that runs slower and makes more frequent stops, Route 35, still gets about 1,400 riders on an average weekday, UTA spokeswoman Carrie Bohnsack-Ware said. Before the Max line, Route 35 served passengers every 15 minutes. Now it's every 30 minutes.
UTA's goal was to have 4,000 to 4,500 people riding the corridor on an average weekday. "People seem to be liking Max," Bohnsack-Ware said.
The 3500 South Max is the first bus rapid-transit line in Utah and began service on July 16. The goal is to have dedicated lanes for Max, and the Utah Department of Transportation is building a lane for the 3500 South Max. Other Max lines are planned in Utah County, connecting Utah Valley University with Brigham Young University and the East Bay area of Provo, and along the Mountain View Corridor, a proposed highway that will run in western Salt Lake County and into Utah County.
