Utah freshman guard Jace Tavita, who has been waiting for the NCAA to clear him to play this year, has been "deemed a full qualifier," and will be eligible to play this season.

Tavita, a 6-foot-4 all-state guard from Brighton High School, has been enrolled in school on his own money, but will be on scholarship for the rest of the year.

The NCAA had put his high school academic transcript under review because of some work during his first two years of high school. Utah coach Jim Boylen felt confident Tavita would eventually be cleared to play, saying, "We feel he's done the necessary work to support his case."

Tavita has been attending class at the U., since August and was allowed to start practicing earlier this week even before getting the official clearance Friday.
