PAYSON — Police arrested a Payson man after a young girl reported that he had slapped her face and picked her sister up by the hair.

The man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police got information that a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old were being abused by their uncle, according to an affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

During an interview with police, the 4-year-old said that her uncle had hit her face with an open hand, according to the affidavit. She also told officers that her uncle would grab her little sister and pick her up by her hair.

Police found multiple bruises on the 4-year-old girl's face, legs and ear, according to the affidavit. The younger sister had a patch of hair, the size of a quarter, missing from the back of her head.

When police interviewed the man, he said the bruises came from the girls falling into a couch and table and from falling onto her face, according to the affidavit.

He did tell police he had grabbed her face when he was frustrated that she wouldn't eat or pick up her toys.

The man didn't admit to pulling the 2-year-old girl's hair, but told police the 4-year-old girl isn't lying, according to the affidavit. He is being held in the Utah County Jail for investigation of child abuse.
