High school football: Timpview unsatisfied in sloppy win
Timpview coach Louis Wong addressed a rather somber Thunderbird squad after a 30-12 win Thursday over the Orem Tigers a win that improved Timpview's overall record to 7-0 and extended its win streak to 30.
Despite the final score, Wong had plenty to pick at. The Thunderbirds turned the ball over five times, including a fumble on the opening kickoff that put Orem in scoring position.
"It was a win and we'll take it," Wong said. "But we can't come out the opening kickoff and give them an opportunity to score. We're a good team, but not that good."
To make matters worse, Timpview racked up eight penalties for 76 yards. Despite the miscues, the Thunderbird offense still looked sharp in between fumbles. Quarterback Casey Rumsey completed 10-of-19 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a touchdown and 54 yards on nine carries.
Junior receiver and kicker Jacob Hatch had two catches for 65 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. Hatch also kicked three field goals and three extra points, giving him more than half of Timpview's point total.
