New exhibit celebrates rails' heyday
LAYTON The new "Iron Rails" exhibit at Layton Heritage Museum, 403 N. Wasatch Drive, features a nostalgic display highlighting the five rail lines that traveled through Davis County. It will be open until Dec. 23.
The Utah Central, the first line to cross Davis County in November 1869; Oregon Short Line; Union Pacific; Denver & Rio Grande; and Bamberger lines hauled freight and passengers to and from Davis County during the height of the railroad glory years. Today, only the Union Pacific and UTA's FrontRunner let residents experience train travel.
The exhibit includes pictures and artifacts from each railroad as well as the history of the lines and describes their impact on Davis County.
The museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
