MIDWAY — Park City cleaned up in the 3A state golf tournament this year, taking both the team title and individual low-medalist honors Thursday at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.

Sam Bell played steady in the last threesome of the day, carding his second 73 and finishing at 146. Uintah's Stratton Shultz led by three strokes going into the last round, but Bell birdied Nos. 13 and 14 to catch him and take the lead.

"The momentum started there," said Bell. His coach, George Murphy, added, "Those were the key holes."

As a team, Uintah slipped 24 strokes behind but managed a second-place finish. Wasatch placed third at 642.

Park City's Zac Fear tied Shultz at 151 for second place.

Bell said his ball striking was the key Thursday as he hit almost every fairway.

"My overall game was just working," he said. "The key for me was to stay under control."

Bell and Fear were senior co-captains and led the way all year. Said Murphy, "They were pulling for each other and the whole team all year."

With three sophomores on the team, Bell said he worked with them nearly every night and he told them, "just take it one shot at a time."

Murphy said Bell really cared about the team this year.

From last year's finish, Park City and Uintah switched places.

"Bell was heartbroken last year after a two-stroke loss," said Murphy, "and he took it upon himself to fix it this year."

From here, Bell heads to the University of Seattle to play.
