OREM — Gang enforcement officers in Orem made a second arrest Wednesday in connection with an assault that occurred last month.

Officers learned that on Sept. 27, three men stopped a car and asked the driver for a ride home. Once in the car and a block later, the driver told police the three started speaking to each other in Tongan and the man in the front passenger seat, Napa'a Finau, 19, of Pleasant Grove, turned off the ignition in the car, according to a 4th District Court affidavit of probable cause.

Once the car was off, one of the men in the back seat began beating the driver. Then, David Mounga, 18, of Orem, got out of the car, dragged the driver onto the street and started assaulting him, the affidavit states. Once all were out of the car, the three men attempted to steal the vehicle but were unsuccessful when the driver's friend slipped behind the wheel and drove away.

After his arrest that evening, Finau identified himself using his older brother's name. When police realized he'd given a fake name, Finau was booked for investigation of attempted robbery with a gang enhancement, forgery, giving false information to a police officer, and assault with a gang enhancement. He told police he gave the fake name because he knew of two warrants out for his arrest.

Mounga, who was arrested Wednesday, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault with a gang enhancement and simple assault with a gang enhancement. Both men are known gang members, police say.
