"High School Musical" is a phenomenon, especially among teens and pre-teens.

Since the productions were filmed in Utah, there's an extra high interest here. To celebrate the upcoming release of "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," local Radio Disney (AM-910) will sponsor a special pep rally on Saturday, 2:30-4 p.m. in Murray.

The event will be at Summerhays Music —The Piano Source, 5430 Green St.

Radio Disney's road crew will be there for family games, dancing and music. Listeners age 14 and under have until today to register to win the piano used in the filming of third movie, which opens Oct. 24.

In addition, listeners can win tickets to a Salt Lake screening of "HSM3," the "HSM3" soundtrack, "HSM3" posters and more.

Radio Disney is a 24-hour radio network devoted to kids, tweens and families. Kids help pick the music that is played and are encouraged to interact via a toll-free phone line to the Radio Disney studio. The network's current playlist includes recording artists Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, David Archuleta, Jordin Sparks, Jesse McCartney, The Cheetah Girls and Mitchel Musso.

MORE SMOOTH JAZZ OPTIONS — Now that KBZN has become much more adult contemporary and less jazzy, there is now another Salt Lake-area "smooth jazz" music option at FM-99.5 HD2.

The only downside is that you have to have high-definition radio to listen to the station.

The format features a mix of contemporary smooth jazz instrumentals and a few smooth jazz vocals, from artists such as Anita Baker and George Benson.

What makes this station even better is that is that it's hosted by some of the biggest names in smooth jazz — Ramsey Lewis, Dave Koz and Kenny G.

RADIO HAPPENINGS — Artie Fufkin has left KXRK. This distinctively voiced DJ is rumored to now be working at a Pocatello station. Several DJs will fill in the 2-7 p.m. spot until a replacement is found.

—KENZ (FM-101.9) presents Thriving Ivory in its first ever appearance in Utah at the Murray Theater on Oct. 18. Listen to Grant Ruby, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Parker, from 3-7 p.m. weekdays, for your chance to win tickets. Tickets also can be purchased for $5 at any of the seven Graywhale locations.

KRSP radio is giving away family vacations for four to Disneyland's "Halloween Time."
