PLYMOUTH, Box Elder County — A Tremonton man was killed in a crash near here when he tried to avoid hitting a deer.

The Utah Highway Patrol said Curtis Kaneko, 54, was driving on state Route 13 on Oct. 3, when he took evasive action to avoid hitting a deer. The animal hit the right corner of his 1993 Honda Civic, sending him off the road and rolling. The UHP said Kaneko was ejected and the vehicle landed on top of him.

Passersby stopped and helped lift the Civic off of him, troopers said. The man was taken to Bear River Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
