California man killed in Emery County crash

FERRON, Emery County — An 81-year-old California man was killed in a crash on state Route 10 about two miles south of here.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the crash occurred about 9:50 p.m. Monday when a 2002 Buick Century went off the right shoulder of the road. The driver overcorrected and went off the left side of the road, rolling.

The driver, identified as Sammy Vasquez, 81, died of injuries at Castle View Hospital. The passenger, 51-year-old Joanna Hernandez Sanders, remains hospitalized. UHP trooper Cameron Roden said authorities were trying to talk to Sanders to determine what caused the crash.
