OGDEN — State officials say a new 120-bed veterans nursing home in Weber County is on schedule despite recent cuts to the state budget.

Terry Schow, director of the Utah Division of Veterans Affairs, says $20 million for the home went untouched during the recent special session that slashed most state agencies' budgets by about 3 percent.

Schow says that a groundbreaking will occur at the Ogden site in October.

He says the division hopes to finish the building by November, 2009.

Utah has several hundred thousand veterans, but there is currently only one veterans nursing home. It is an 80-bed facility in Salt Lake City.
