Y. offense far from perfect

Sorry we couldn't dominate the line against the Aggies and help out Fui Vakapuna and Unga a little bit more, but we were kind of out of sync being bigger and stronger, stuff like that.

And we're really, really sorry you guys couldn't carry all this weight in Romney Stadium and finally just broke down and gave up a shutout in that fourth quarter. We really feel bad you couldn't make it three shutouts in a row after doing such a great, noble and courageous job, guys.

And we especially feel bad that Nixon got hurt with 11:33 left in the game and cornerback Scott Johnson also got banged up — stopping you guys from keeping the nickel package going. It was a time both should have never been on the field, cause, if we'd just played up to our rankings and publicity clips, this game should have been 60-something to nothing at that stage.

Sorry USU scored the last two touchdowns and we couldn't even muster but that ugly blocked field goal in the fourth.

Sorry, we stepped in the trap of this USU thing up here, you know, where it gets sloppy and there are seven penalties in the final three minutes.

But, golly, guys, these things happen.

Bye weeks are a drag. Ask UCLA and USC. At least we got the W.

We now know how Utah's team felt after the Weber State game. It's a win, really, and that's all that counts. We have to credit the Aggies for playing tough, that's the sporting thing to do. They were tougher than UCLA, for Cosmo's sake and they never quit, never laid down like we expected them to.

It really made us guys on offense mad when the Aggies scored a second touchdown and trailed 34-14 and the home crowd started chanting, "Over-rated, Over-rated, Over-rated."

Who do they think they are, at 1-4? Don't they realize who we are at 5-0?

Fellas, we promise we'll do better, come out tougher and execute more purely against New Mexico next week. We'll be at home where our energy is high and our friends are supportive.

We learned a big lesson Friday night. We're going to take the best shot from people, so we better be ready.

We repent. Will you forgive us? It was a win.

Signed, BYU's offense.
